Luke's favourite series has always been the Lord of the Rings trilogy, by Tolkein.  The writing style, the kinds of characters, the places and the way of war in the books has always been familiar, and in a good, welcome way.  It reminds him of home, without the heartache of the reality of Asgard.

His favourite character is actually one who wasn't introduced until relatively later on.  He saw much of himself in Faramir, the unwanted and cast out younger son, who nevertheless wanted only what was right and good for the kingdom, and does not end up being able to rule the way his father had.

There are other similarities, and also dissonances, but a love of the books remained well after he remembered who he was.

All SHIELD agents are reminded that Agent Loki is not, in fact, the enemy, despite his frequent actions to the contrary.  Would the older agents stop implying that he is to the younger agents and new recruits, as this causes obvious friction that we do not need. -Fury.

Fury, I don't care what level of importance the latest mission has.  I'm not taking a whole three weeks out of my time off in order to go along with it.  I do have an actual job. -Loki

---

Thor - or anyone, really - can you tell your brother to stop suddenly being a lady?  It's highly distracting. -TS

I thought that was the point. -Loki

At least warn US before you do it next time then, OK? -TS

Will it make a difference to your level of distraction? -Loki

...No. - TS

Then I see no point. -Loki

Damnit.

---

Note to all agents: Agent Loki's bookshop is his out of hours, out of costume retreat, and it is not a widely known and public fact that he is, in fact, either Loki or our agent.  I'm asking politely that you stop using it as a damn company library and ordering service. -Fury

Thank you. -Loki

This is a SHIELD-wide notice that is going out to all agents: Just because either the Consultant or Agent Loki deem something to be a good idea, is not a good reason to go along with it.  They may be agents, and we may need them, but use your heads next time. -Fury

----
I would like it generally known that for the next seven days, I will be absent.  I am taking my leave temporarily and will be back after that period.  During this time, there will be no activity from me of any kind in New York, or other parts of the world.  If it seems as though I am going against this stipulation during this time, first contact me.  If it is me and I have gone back on my word, then I have brought this upon myself with the full realisation of the consequences of my actions.  If it is impossible to reach me, or if I have been sighted in an entirely different area, assume that it is not, in fact, me.  In this instance do not hesitate to use force.

Accounting would like to inform Agent Loki Odinson (AKA 'Luke Vandersson') that while last Saturday's trick was, admittedly, rather amusing, the price tag attached to the repairs involved most certainly is not.

Research and Development, however, would like to congratulate Agent Loki in his latest venture, and await his next with eager anticipation.

---

Agents are reminded yet again that while in costume, Agent Loki is not to be referred to as an agent, or as his civilian persona, 'Luke Vandersson'.  Likewise, while leading his civilian life it is similarly frowned upon to refer to him either as an agent, or as Loki. His status as a SHIELD agent is classified, and it is his own request that these two sides of his life remain unconnected in the public eye. -Fury

[OOC: Highly inspired by this Tumblr blog: http://memosfromfury.tumblr.com/.  Although all of mine are set within this world, and are either generic or referring to situations that would realistically occur with Loki in the team.]

Currently, Luke is an assistant bookshop keeper.  The manager is a woman called Sarah, and while the shop is rather small it has a good number of regular customers.  He has an apartment not far from the shop, which is actually well lived in, in keeping with his having taken on the full life of a 'normal' human being.

As for the Avengers, they are still very much around and active.  His association with them is such: by now, he (grudgingly) regards Thor as his brother once more.  He will occasionally assist the Avengers when he sees fit, but at the same time, Loki is known to the public more as a benign supervillain due to his first appearance (meant to give that impression to the current crazy, so that they'd make the mistake of challenging Loki AND coming out into the open) and subsequent reappearances.

When in public as Loki, he will always wear his Asgardian clothes with the possibility of armour, to distinguish between his supervillain and civilian selves, however he is not thought of as a direct threat, since most of his activity is harmless fun, which doesn't cost any lives even if it does make some tear their hair out and others need a very big, very stiff drink.  He's still the God of Mischief and Tricksters and Chaos and All Things That Don't Go As Planned, of course.

When among the Avengers and SHIELD in private, however, is another story.  He is relatively relaxed, closer to his 'Luke' persona than his outward supervillain self, and often participates in SHIELD events, board meetings and operations, albeit covertly, and when it does not clash with his actual job, even though he does get paid by SHIELD.

In SWS, he won't answer to anything other than 'Luke'.  He'll still answer to Luke even when your character is obvious about knowing who he is.  He will only admit to being Loki if it is the last option left to him, or if he trusts them implicitly.  The only exception to this is, quite obviously, other Loki alternates, although this may not be a given.

Personality:

As Luke, he's rather mild-mannered.  Quiet, more likely to take things in and comment to one side than take direct action.  He knows his books very well, as he's devoured most of the things on the shelves.  He's likely to solve a person's problems simply by doing/saying apparently random things that have no bearing on the situation, yet actually work out to the advantage of... most.  He isn't above pranking, but most of the time it's subtle enough that he doesn't get laden with the blame.  His temper is, ironically, more aptly described as cold fury.  He'll take whatever the person did to annoy and/or anger him, and wait until the right moment, and then unleash his anger calmly and methodically, either through words or otherwise.  This is due to his internalising everything - Luke is a direct result of Loki internalising everything that would otherwise have made him go insane and destructive.  Needless to say, while this is good in the short term, this is not actually good.

As Loki, he still retains much of what makes him Luke.  The reasoning for this is that the two are not separate entities; they are both Loki, and they are both merely ways of displaying himself to the outside world.  However, as Loki there are a number of differences.  He will be far more stand-offish, much more prone to reject advances and less likely to accept the idea that someone actually means him well.  He acts more befitting a prince, having acclimatised himself to Earth's informal (and American) culture as Luke.  He also is less bothered about people knowing what he is capable of.  The biggest difference, however, is how he handles his temper - while the cold rage does still appear, it's just as likely that Loki (at first, at least) will quite simply explode, his frustrations and anger issues having been bottled up over the time he hasn't been paying them any attention.  They were not gone, simply waiting.  This may mean raised voice, threats, or even carrying through of threats and violence either physical or magical.

Appearance:

Exactly the same as in Avengers canon.  He is, however, more prone toward somewhat more relaxed body language now, and wears less formal clothes, such as trousers and long sleeved t-shirts/turtle-necks.  His main colour scheme is still dark and centred around black, brown and green.

He still has the ability to summon his armour, he simply hasn't used it in a very long time.  The armour is exactly the same.  He does not, however, have the spear he's seen using in Avengers.  This is because (quite obviously) these events didn't happen the same way, and he was not being 'Loki' at the time.
